Mark Reinfeld – 2017 Vegetarian Hall of Fame Inductee

On July 6th 2017, Mark Reinfeld was inducted into the North American Vegetarian Society’s Vegetarian Hall of Fame for his decades of work in the field of food activism. Teaching others how to prepare healthy plant-based cuisine is his way of affecting positive change on the planet. Chef Mark joins an honor roll of previous inductees that include Mahatma Gandhi, T. Collin Campbell, PhD, and Jay and Freya Dinshah, the founders of the American Vegan Society.


The Vegetarian Hall of Fame has inducted people that have made significant contributions to helping the advancement of veganism. Through his Vegan Fusion company, Chef Mark Reinfeld offers both in person and online vegan cooking workshops, as well as chef trainings and vegan consulting services worldwide. In addition, Chef Mark has authored 7 vegan cookbooks including his latest book, Healing the Vegan Way, which was selected by as the “best book for vegans in 2016.”

All if the Hall of Fame inductees share something in common – they’re activists propelled by a passion from deep within, and their activism has helped create a better world for people, animals and for the planet itself. But, their work obviously comes in a variety of different forms. It could be by teaching others how to eat for health and happiness. It could be by saving animals from lives of neglect and worse. It could be by educating people worldwide that a better way of life exists, and that it is attainable. And it can also be by simply providing lots and lots of people with very good vegan food prepared with love and peace and serenity.

You see, when we eat food that is beautiful and delicious, and made in a manner that didn’t take a ton of work to prepare, we not only infuse our bodies with nourishment, but we also feel sensory satisfaction, and from a cognitive standpoint, it propels us to consider the possibility of eating this way more often – and perhaps even all the time. And that’s what food activism is all about.Tonight’s recipient of the award is more than an award-winning restauranteur and cookbook author; and he’s so more than the male equivalent to a vegan Rachael Ray, as Publishers Weekly calls him. He’s a food activist, and we’ve all eaten his food. As a matter of fact, he’s one of the reasons we’re here right now in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
